Casa Ananda and the Art of Building with the Desert
Located in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, Casa Ananda is a residential project by Yturbe Taller de Arquitectura that balances inward focus with a strong connection to its desert surroundings. The house is organized around a central courtyard, where a mountain plum tree anchors daily life and brings a sense of calm and continuity to the space.
The architecture is defined by staggered volumes that create a clear spatial rhythm, moving between enclosed areas and open transitions. Carefully framed views, shifting light, and deep shadows shape the experience throughout the day. A sculptural pool extends from the courtyard, strengthening the relationship between architecture and landscape while responding to the region’s warm climate.

Material choices are restrained and purposeful. Natural stone, wood, and textured concrete give the house a grounded, lasting presence, while large openings support cross ventilation and passive cooling. Orientation and shading strategies reduce heat gain and limit reliance on mechanical systems, allowing the building to respond naturally to its environment.
The landscape design by Daniel Dixon of The Los Cabos Landscaping reinforces this approach, using native vegetation to soften the architecture and create a seamless transition between built form and desert terrain.
